SECURITY COUNCIL SANCTIONS DRC COLONEL FOR GRAVE VIOLATIONS AGAINST CHILDREN
On December 2, 2010, the United Nations Security Council sanctions one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Colonels for violating several of the six grave violations against children. He is being charged with overseeing mass rape of women and girls, with abducting and executing child soldiers, and failure to release child soldiers when it was against the law. These crimes violate four of the six grave violations: recruitment and use of child soldiers, killing and maiming of children, sexual violations, and the denial of humanitarian access.
